Software Developer (Java)

About the client and the project

Optical networking and telecommunications technology company with an engineering presence in Portugal. You will join an engineering team building software for network and telecommunications systems, working on backend services and infrastructure that support large-scale distributed platforms.

What you will do

  • Design and develop backend components using Java in a distributed systems environment.
  • Apply object-oriented principles, data structures, and multi-threading concepts to build robust software.
  • Work with relational and NoSQL databases to support application data needs.
  • Build and integrate RESTful services and event-driven components using tools such as Kafka.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across different locations and cultures.
  • Contribute to containerized and cloud-based deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, and major cloud providers).
  • Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement of development practices.

Must-have skills

  • MSc / BS degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience with Object-Oriented concepts, data structures and multi-threading
  • Database concepts
  • English C1
  • Portuguese

Nice to have

  • REST and Event-Driven Architecture (e.g. Kafka, NATS)
  • Cloud-oriented server languages (e.g. Java, Python)
  • NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB)
  • Container-based architectures (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Cloud deployments (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure)
  • Network technologies (e.g. Ethernet, IP, DWDM)

Location and work model

  • Hybrid (2 days/week in the office, Lisboa)
