Role Summary
MOV.AI is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer responsible for building and evolving the backend services that power its Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) platform.
The role combines expertise in:

The engineer will collaborate closely with Frontend, Robotics, DevOps, Product and QA teams.
This is not a DevOps role or a Software Architect position. The focus is on hands-on backend development and delivering production-grade software.
Candidate Profile
1. Strong Backend Engineer
The ideal candidate should:
- Have extensive backend development experience.
- Deliver production-quality software.
- Build scalable distributed systems.
- Work comfortably within large and complex codebases.
- Understand performance, concurrency, resilience and maintainability.
Candidates whose experience is limited to CRUD applications, internal tools or simple web services are unlikely to be a good fit.
2. Distributed Systems Engineer
The candidate should understand modern backend architectures and be comfortable working with:
- Microservices
- Event-driven architectures
- Message-based systems
- Containerized services
- High-availability systems
Expected capabilities include:
- Translating architecture into production services
- Designing clean APIs
- Fault tolerance and recovery
- Managing operational complexity
3. Quality-Focused Software Engineer
The engineer should naturally build quality into the software through:

4. Hands-on Engineer
The role is highly technical and hands-on.

- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews.
Approximately 80% of the role is hands-on software engineering.
The company is not looking for candidates who want to transition into Architecture, Product Management or People Management.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Build backend services powering the MOV.AI platform.
- Develop scalable APIs and service interfaces.
- Implement business logic for fleet management, orchestration, deployment, monitoring and analytics.
- Develop high-performance services using Rust and Python.
- Build distributed systems running across cloud, edge and robot environments.
- Improve scalability, reliability and maintainability of existing services.
- Participate in architecture discussions and convert designs into production software.
- Build testable and observable systems.
- Support debugging and root-cause analysis in production.
- Work closely with Frontend, Robotics, DevOps and QA teams.

- Have no automated testing experience.
- Have no CI/CD experience.

- Have only a DevOps profile.

- Have stopped writing production code as software architects.
Reporting Line
The role reports to the Backend Team Lead and works closely with:
- Robotics
- Frontend
- DevOps
- Product
The engineer will contribute to the platform architecture and the development of core backend services.
Compensation
- Gross annual salary: €50,000 to €65,000
- Paid over: 14 monthly salaries.
- Exceptional candidates with strong expertise in Rust, Distributed Systems and Cloud-Native Engineering may receive compensation above this range.
