Robotics QA Engineer (ROS, Gazebo, Python & Jira)
Robotics QA Engineer (ROS, Gazebo, Python & Jira)
About MOV.AI
MOV.AI is a robotics software company developing an autonomy platform for the next generation of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), operating in large-scale industrial and logistics environments. The platform enables fleets of robots to navigate, localize, and operate reliably in complex real-world environments, ranging from international airports to large warehouse operations.
Role Summary
MOV.AI is looking for a Robotics QA Engineer responsible for validating the quality, reliability and safety-related behaviour of its Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) software platform.
The role combines expertise in:
- Robotics Software Testing
- Simulation-Based Validation
- ROS-Based Test Automation
- Test Management & Traceability
- Failure Analysis & Root Cause Investigation
- Structured Quality Processes
- Release Validation
The engineer will work closely with the Robotics, Backend, Frontend and DevOps teams.
This is not a traditional manual QA position or a web application testing role. The ideal candidate understands robotic systems, simulation environments, system interactions and software validation in complex environments.
Candidate Profile
1. Robotics QA Engineer
The ideal candidate should:
- Understand how robotic software behaves in both real and simulated environments.
- Think in terms of robot behaviour, state machines, navigation flows and sensor interactions.
- Validate complete robotic workflows rather than isolated software functions.
- Distinguish between software defects, configuration issues and environmental conditions.
Candidates with only web application testing experience are unlikely to be a good fit.
2. Simulation-Based Validation
The candidate should have experience with simulation environments and understand both their capabilities and limitations.
Expected experience includes:
- Gazebo / Ignition Gazebo
- Simulation-based validation
- Robot localisation
- Navigation
- Sensor interactions
- Obstacle avoidance
The engineer should be capable of:
- Creating realistic testing scenarios.
- Reproducing complex software defects.
- Validating behaviour across software releases.
- Translating customer issues into automated simulation tests.
3. Quality Engineering
The role requires a structured approach to quality assurance.
Expected knowledge includes:
- Test Plans
- Test Cases
- Regression Testing
- Release Validation
- Defect Tracking
- Traceability
- Validation Processes
The ideal candidate should be comfortable documenting complex test scenarios and maintaining large regression test suites.
4. Hands-on Problem Solver
The engineer should:
- Develop Python-based automated tests.
- Investigate software failures directly.
- Analyse ROS Bags, application logs and diagnostic outputs.
- Work closely with developers to reproduce and isolate defects.
Approximately 70% of the role consists of hands-on validation and automation work.
The company is not looking for candidates who only execute predefined manual test scripts.
